Akin Gump international trade partner Bernd Janzen was quoted by American Public Media’s Marketplace for its article “China gets punished after charges it underpriced steel” on a reported 266 percent tariff for certain types of Chinese steel products imposed by the U.S. Commerce Department after an antidumping investigation.
Janzen, whose practice focuses on trade litigation proceedings such as antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings, noted that these tariffs can stay in place for years and said, regarding the items covered, “Steel products, chemicals, building materials, it’s [a] huge range of manufactured goods covered by these kinds of orders.”
He added that no Chinese company had responded to the Commerce Dept.’s request for information, which may explain why the tariffs are so high.
