For its article, “Energy Deal-Making Stoked By 2016 Oil Price Recovery,” Law360 quoted Akin Gump oil & gas partner John Goodgame regarding consolidation in the midstream sector as a top M&A trend of 2016.
“In the midstream business, the big thing we're finally seeing is some consolidation,” Goodgame said of the trend.
Goodgame also discussed the complexity of master limited partnerships (MLP) mergers, saying, “Anytime you talk about combining MLPs, you've got two groups of limited partners, but you also have two general partners, so you have at least four different interests and it has to make economic sense for each of them.”
