Mark Dawkins, a partner in Akin Gump’s litigation practice, was quoted in the Law360 story “UK Litigation Teams Ready For Post-Brexit Dispute Boom,” looking at the expected increase in litigation once the United Kingdom’s departs from the European Union.

The article reports that the UK’s departure process could rattle longstanding business arrangements with EU partners. This could lead to a number of disputes coming from London’s financial district as institutions and investors try to work legal angles to unload losses.

“Bottom line is more volatility will generate more disputes,” said Dawkins. “Some will end up litigating, and/or we may find that a bank, investor or fund suffers a large unexpected loss that is where you will tend to get attempts to hide losses, that shows up later down the road [when] problems are uncovered, that can generate litigation.”
