Legal Speak Podcast Features Amy Wollensack on Historic Transaction

ALM’s Legal Speak podcast, for its episode “‘This Has Never Happened’: M&A Leaders on Why Making A Deal With a Fellow Black Woman Was a Watershed Moment,” featured Akin Gump corporate partner Amy Wollensack in a discussion on participating in a deal meeting that, for the first time in their 15-plus-year careers to date, featured Black women on both sides as leaders.
The episode featured Wollensack, who joined the firm last month (read more here) discussing her practice and the video call, particularly the pleasant surprise of seeing a woman of color on the other side of the table. She said, “As you may know, fewer than 1 percent of law firm partners are Black women. And I suspect…if you look at corporate partners, that number is even lower. So, having run into Black women in these leadership positions on deals over the last couple of years was really a hopeful sign for me that the industry may be diversifying.”
She continued, “That is super important for young attorneys coming up because they need to see themselves represented in lawyers who are at the top of their game because if you can see it, you can be it, and it’s important to have that representation at the top.”
