Akin Gump international trade partner Stephen Kho has been quoted in the China Business Law Journal article “Quick Tips for Exporters,” a compilation of insights on what Chinese exporters need to be aware of with regarding to doing business in the United States.
Kho warned that U.S. companies, “now even more emboldened by the Trump administration’s tough stance on trade enforcement, are putting pressure on the USDOC (U.S. Department of Commerce) and even the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) to strongly enforce anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders.”
Additionally, Kho noted that a coalition of CEOs from certain U.S. industries “is calling for increased enforcement of trade laws and is pressuring U.S. Congress to make both statutory and procedural changes to U.S. trade enforcement laws.”
As a result, Kho said the U.S. government is likely to take an even tough stance on trade enforcement. Chinese exporters, therefore, “must be vigilant, as well as fully co-operate and actively participate in current and future U.S. and EU trade remedy proceedings to come.”
