Scott Parven has successfully represented Fortune 500 companies, major trade associations and foreign governments. His experience at major corporations, law firms and consultancies has made him a trusted democratic counsel to CEOs, trade association executives and foreign dignitaries alike.
Mr. Parven has notably been affiliated with centrist Democrats for his entire professional career and has developed close relationships with members of Congress and staff in driving market-based solutions to public policy problems.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Parven was the founder and president of Parven Pomper Strategies (PPS) Inc. He holds a distinguished record of government relations success on behalf of some of America’s most well-known corporations.
Mr. Parven’s political acumen and policy advice have earned him accolades by numerous publications, including “Best In The Business” by The Hill newspaper and National Journal magazine. In 2010, he was named to the board of the Democratic Leadership Council.
Before founding PPS, Mr. Parven served as head of international public policy at Aetna, where he helped the company transform into a global financial services leader through his work with foreign governments, the U.S. Congress, the White House and other dignitaries. Mr. Parven led the effort to build Aetna’s company relationships throughout Asia and Latin America, and served as chief of staff to the chairman of Aetna International while concurrently serving as global policy chief. His successes in establishing public-private partnerships across the globe earned him Aetna’s most distinguished award for executives—Aetna Chairman’s Award for Extraordinary Service. His most notable achievement was delivering a life insurance license for Aetna in the PRC, which was announced at summit with President Clinton and President Ziang in 1997. That license was only the second such license granted by the People’s Republic of China, and was a widely acclaimed government relations victory.
Mr. Parven has represented a number of media and publishing companies. His international and domestic government relations portfolio on behalf of these companies’ senior executives includes tax, international trade and intellectual property issues, and other issues of importance to the individual businesses.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Parven was the chair of public policy at a global law firm, working under Secretary Mickey Kantor, and he was a policy advisor at the Federal Policy Group.
