- 12 Sep 2023 - Katie Ellen O’Brien - Denial Order; No monetary penalty
On September 12, 2023, BIS issued a Denial Order against Katie Ellen O’Brien ("Respondent") for a period of ten years in relation to violations of 18 U.S.C. § 371, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C § 1701, et seq.) (“IEEPA”) and 18 U.S.C. § 554. The order went into effect on the Respondent's date of conviction on January 17, 2019. Specifically, the Respondent was convicted of making false claims and misrepresentations to the U.S. Government during the course of an investigation asmuggling and attempting to smuggle firearms and firearm parts from the United States to Mexico without the required license or written approval. The Respondent was sentenced to 60 months of confinement, three years of supervised release and a $600 special assessment. BIS did not impose any further monetary penalty on Respondent beyond the Court-imposed penalty.
