(Dubai/Washington, D.C./London) - Akin is pleased to announce the latest enhancements to its groundbreaking legal data productivity platform, OverRuled. Akin is expanding its export controls module to include data from the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), the U.S. agency responsible for administering military export controls. This expansion supplements OverRuled’s capabilities to provide essential resources for compliance practitioners to stay updated on U.S. export controls and effectively analyze and mitigate associated risks. The DDTC Export Controls expansion brings with it a comprehensive database of DDTC enforcement cases, consent agreements, guidance and FAQs. This invaluable resource enables practitioners to navigate the complex landscape of military export controls compliance.

“Expanding the export controls offering to include DDTC data was a natural next step for OverRuled, centralizing crucial information related to compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and simplifying access to DDTC enforcement actions, consent agreements, guidance and FAQs. This expansion makes OverRuled even more of a one-stop shop for compliance professionals seeking to navigate the intricate regulatory landscape of export controls,” said Kim Myers, Akin partner and OverRuled co-founder. “With the addition of DDTC, OverRuled now provides compliance professionals with export control guidance for both dual-use and military export controls.”

The DDTC Export Controls expansion makes DDTC guidance available to compliance professionals on OverRuled, which already includes Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Sanctions and Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Export Controls Modules, as well as China and Russia Trade Controls Resource Centers (read more here and here).

Mahmoud (Mac) Fadlallah, Akin partner and OverRuled co-founder, added, “We are excited for this expansion, which further solidifies OverRuled’s position as a leader in legal data productivity, empowering practitioners to stay ahead in the ever-evolving world of trade compliance.”

In addition to the DDTC expansion, OverRuled is pleased to announce enhancements to its Sanctions Module (formerly known as the OFAC Sanctions Module) to include EU and U.K. guidance and FAQs. This enhancement, at no extra cost to users, further strengthens OverRuled’s reputation as the “go-to platform” for compliance professionals navigating this complex and evolving landscape. The addition of EU and U.K. resources comes at a time of increasing actions, particularly in relation to Russia and Belarus, and the ability to perform targeted searches by jurisdiction(s), sanctions program(s), and/or hot-topic categories enables users to get the resources they need in a matter of seconds.

Since its launch in 2022, OverRuled has received several recognitions, including from Financial Times, The American Lawyer and International Financial Law Review as well as a CIO 100 Award.

OverRuled, owned by Akin Solutions LLC, is a cutting-edge legal technology platform developed to alleviate the burden faced by lawyers and compliance practitioners from complex regulations. The OverRuled Predictor, a proprietary machine learning algorithm in the U.S. sanctions module, enables compliance professionals to predict potential regulatory penalties and mitigate related compliance risks with approximately 90% accuracy.
