(New York) – Akin announced today that Professor Kabir Duggal and Felipe Nazar Pagani have joined the firm as international arbitration partners in its New York office. Duggal and Nazar Pagani are the latest additions to the firm’s growing International Arbitration Group, with Akin recently having added Mark Clarke and Jonathan Brierley in London and Shane Jury in Dubai.

“Our strategic investment in international arbitration reflects our commitment to leveraging our global capabilities to handle our clients’ most complex cross-border disputes,” said Akin co-chair Abid Qureshi. “The addition of Kabir and Felipe in New York builds on our momentum in London and the Middle East and we’re pleased to welcome them to the firm.”

Duggal focuses on international investment arbitration and public international law, serving as arbitrator, mediator, legal expert and counsel. Duggal, a renowned academic, is recognized as a chartered arbitrator, having sat in more than 70 arbitrations. He is also a senior fellow and advisor to the Center of International Commercial and Investment Arbitration at Colombia Law School, alongside Professor George Bermann.

Nazar Pagani, vice president of the New York Chapter of Club Español de Arbitraje, advises multinational companies, investors and sovereign entities in high-stakes cross-border disputes with a particular focus on Latin America, further strengthening the Firm’s market leading capabilities in the region. He represents clients in a variety of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, construction, mining and telecoms.

Akin’s head of international arbitration Mark Clarke said, “Kabir and Felipe bring additional legal, sectoral and regional expertise, which perfectly complements our existing offering and responds to the needs of our clients. They join Akin at an exciting time, as the firm continues to invest in this specialist practice area.”

“Akin has a premier arbitration offering and this is an exciting opportunity to grow its trans-Atlantic reach. I’m looking forward to collaborating with my new colleagues worldwide, to leverage my expertise alongside Akin’s Tier 1 Public Policy, Lobbying and International Trade teams,” said Duggal on his move to the firm.

“Akin’s growing platform for international arbitration, along with the firm’s commitment to its many Latin American clients, make this the ideal destination to continue building my practice,” added Nazar Pagani.

“We look forward to getting started,” said both.

Duggal joins Akin from Arnold & Porter, and Nazar Pagani joins from Perez-Llorca.
