Biography

Jonathan is a dispute resolution partner in Akin’s international arbitration practice. He advises clients on resolving high-value commercial and technical disputes, principally in the energy & infrastructure sectors.

Jonathan brings experience in diverse forms of dispute resolution, including arbitration, litigation, adjudication, Dispute Adjudication Boards (DABs)/Dispute Review Boards (DRBs) and mediation. His advisory and advocacy work has taken him across the globe, benefitting projects by avoiding or otherwise resolving disputes in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas and in Asia Pacific.

Beyond his practice as counsel, Jonathan serves as an arbitrator to the Energy Disputes Arbitration Centre (EDAC); is a Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) accredited mediator; and trains leading global energy companies on international best practice for procurement, project and claims management, and dispute resolution.

Clients value Jonathan’s technical acumen, hands-on approach and strategic thinking. They describe his “unique” ability to “build strong relationships across all members of [their] organization[s]”; quickly “identify the crucial points”; and formulate “a clear and consistent strategy across legally and factually dense claims” (WWL 2024, International Arbitration, United Kingdom).

Jonathan has also been singled out as “an arbitration specialist with a lot of mega construction and energy project experience.” He is noted for playing a “central” role in “some of the largest disputes in the sector” and for knowing “projects inside out, their data and records, and how to utilize these to the benefit of his client.” (WWL 2024, International Arbitration, United Kingdom).

His achievements have been acknowledged by Who’s Who Legal, where he is recognized as a Future Leader in international arbitration. Best Lawyers also considers him One to Watch.

Prior to joining Akin, Jonathan trained and became a partner at another international law firm in London.
