(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump today announced the launch of a new cross-disciplinary initiative related to the domestication of the U.S. supply chain. With lawyers spanning multiple practices, the group will help clients anticipate, prepare for and shape the changing legal and policy environment in order to address the national and economic security concerns of the U.S. supply chain.

The team includes lawyers and advisors from numerous Akin Gump practices, including communications and information technology, congressional investigations, energy, government contracts, health care and life sciences, international trade, investment management, and public law and policy.

“We launched this initiative to help our clients navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic and growing U.S.-China tensions,” said Clete R. Willems, a partner in Akin Gump’s public law and policy practice. “This confluence of issues has led to an intense policymaking focus on how to move supply chains back to the United States.”

Jamie Tucker, a fellow partner in the public law and policy practice, added, “Our strong, market-leading policy and regulatory teams are well positioned to address the impact of these and other developments. Akin Gump is uniquely situated to help clients anticipate, prepare for and shape the changing legal and policy environment to address supply chain domestication issues.”

Angela B. Styles, a partner in Akin Gump’s government contracts practice, said, “Our lawyers and advisors are at the forefront of supply chain domestication issues providing comprehensive counsel to clients. This new initiative formalizes what we have already been doing for some time. Now, with an even greater sense of urgency, we continue to stand ready to work with clients on their most pressing concerns.”
