Biography
  • Associate in the international disputes practice.
  • Specializes in complex international arbitration and commercial litigation proceedings, with experience of claims involving shareholder and joint venture disputes, post M&A disputes, insurance disputes, distributorship and professional negligence claims, across a range of industries.
  • Experienced in global investigations and enforcement proceedings.

Charles is an associate in the international disputes practice, based in the Dubai office. He advises a broad range of clients on high-value, complex, cross-border disputes, including international arbitration proceedings under all major institutional rules, and commercial litigation both in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) — covering the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and regional onshore courts — and in the English Courts. Charles’ experience spans various industries, with a particular focus on the financial services, energy and life sciences sectors.

Representative Work
  • Represented an African state national oil company in an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration worth approximately US $1 billion, in respect of a failed joint venture relating to an oil field.
  • Acted for an American client in a series of liability insurance arbitrations concerning losses in excess of US $300 million.
  • Acted on a US $190 million professional negligence claim against a firm of solicitors relating to the conduct of a financing transaction.
  • Defended a Middle Eastern government entity in connection with a US $20 million ICC arbitration for the alleged wrongful termination of a management agreement.
  • Acting for a Middle Eastern telecommunications operator on a Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) arbitration concerning the termination of a contract with an authorized reseller.
  • Represented a Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) healthcare company in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Court proceedings relating to a distribution agreement for medical equipment.
