- Advises clients on all aspects of the development, financing, acquisition and disposition across the full spectrum of energy & infrastructure projects.
- Experience spans an array of industries and assets with a particular focus on electrical energy generation, distribution and transmission (including renewable and thermal) energy storage, energy transition and other infrastructure projects.
Ron advises developers, lenders, sponsors, private investment funds and investors on the development, financing, acquisition and disposition across the full spectrum of energy, energy transition & infrastructure projects. His practice spans a broad range of sectors, including thermal power, renewable energy, energy storage, distributed generation, energy transition (including carbon capture, hydrogen and e-methane), transmission facilities, petrochemical plants, data centers and social infrastructure.
Ron is known for his strategic counsel on complex project financing transactions, particularly in the context of structuring the joint venture and financing arrangements for unique or first-of-its-kind projects. His extensive experience in project finance and development has earned him recognition in Chambers USA and a reputation for finding commercial and practical solutions to novel situations.
Prior to joining Akin, Ron was a partner and co-head of the energy & infrastructure practice for the Americas at another leading global law firm in New York.
- Advised Osaka Gas USA Corporation in connection with the refinancing and sale of the Michigan Power natural gas co-generation facility located in Michigan, and the sale of all of its equity interest in the CPV Shore natural gas combined cycle electrical energy generation facility located in New Jersey.
- Advised Advanced Power US Holdings Inc., as borrower, on a $100 million senior secured revolving letter of credit and loan facility to support the development of an approximately 8 GW portfolio of solar, battery storage and natural gas-fired power generating facilities in the United States.
- Advised Osaka Gas USA Corporation and Kyuden International Americas Inc in connection with the sale of all of their equity interests in the Kleen Energy natural gas power generation facility.
- Advised the Sponsor on the proposed development, joint venture, financing and offtake arrangements for a synthetic fuel facility to be located in the Midwest which would produce e-methane by extracting hydrogen from natural gas and combining it with biogenic carbon dioxide produced at ethanol facilities, including sequestering the carbon dioxide produced in the hydrogen production process.
- Advised the Sponsor in a bespoke project financing for the construction and operation of a portfolio of distributed microgrids consisting of ultra-clean natural gas-fired generators in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) with up to 232 MW of generating capacity.
- Advised the Sponsor and South Field Energy LLC in the approximately $1.3 billion project financing and equity arrangements for the construction of the South Field Energy project, a 1,182 MW combined-cycle natural gas electric generating facility located in PJM near Wellsville, Ohio.
- Advised the Lenders in connection with the construction loan and post-construction senior secured letter of credit facility for an approximately 260 MW wind power generation facility in ERCOT near the Texas panhandle containing both an energy and basis hedge.
- Advised the sponsor in a bespoke project financing for the construction and operation of a portfolio of distributed microgrids consisting of ultra-clean natural gas-fired generators in ERCOT with up to 232 MW of generating capacity.
- Advised the Investor in connection with their tax equity investment in a commercial & industrial (C&I) wind project.
