Biography
  • Advises leading private fund sponsors on a wide range of investment management matters.
  • Advises on an array of structured secondary transactions.
  • Advises investors on primary and secondary investments in private funds across sectors, including private equity, credit, real estate and infrastructure, among other industries.

Simon advises prominent private fund sponsors on fundraisings and the ongoing maintenance of funds, with a focus on European mid-market and emerging-market funds. Simon represents fund sponsors, managers and investors, including sovereign wealth funds, on fund formations and capital deployments worldwide.

Simon advises on an array of matters and transactions spanning sectors, including private equity (PE), credit, real estate, special situations and infrastructure. He regularly advises LP clients on investments into private funds and managed accounts, and co-investments.

In addition to his work in respect of primary investments, Simon also advises clients on the secondary acquisition and sale of fund interests and on a range of structured secondary transactions, including rollover secondaries, tender offers and general partner (GP)-led restructurings.

Representative Work
  • Advised a Swedish fund manager on a “one and done” fundraising for a €950-million PE fund.
  • Acted as lead adviser to a leading, growth-focused PE manager in relation to a continuation fund transaction and the simultaneous acquisition of an add-on investment.
  • Represented a Swedish fund manager on the raising of its growth capital fund, including the first investment by one of its investors, the European Investment Fund, to form part of the joint European Commission and EIF European Scale-up Action for Risk Capital (ESCALAR) program.
  • Advises one of the most active sovereign wealth investors in its investments in PE, credit, real estate, special opportunities and infrastructure funds, co-investments and managed accounts.
  • Advised a leading Central European fund manager on a cross-fund transaction involving two of the manager’s flagship funds and a secondary pool of capital.
    • Advised three European development finance institutions on their investment, as the cornerstone investors, in an African forestry fund.
    • Represented the leading Turkish PE sponsor in the raising of its fourth fund.
    • Assisted a premier Africa-focused sponsor on the raising of its fourth flagship pan-African fund.
    • Advised a joint venture, between a development finance institution and a fund of funds, in respect of a management spinout.
    • Advised a U.K. sponsor on subscriptions for preferred equity in its fund.
    • Represented a pension fund on the disposal of 120 fund interests.
    • Assisted a secondaries fund manager on the end-of-life disposal of its fund investments.
    • Advised a sovereign wealth fund on its investment in a fund sponsor.
