The Russia Sanctions Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2026 came into force. An additional nine individuals and eleven entities were added to the Schedule of sanctioned persons.
- 06 May 2026 (EU):
The European Commission (the "Commission") updated five Russia sanctions FAQs (FAQs 1, 2, 15, 42, and 43) relating to the EU "Asset freeze and prohibition to make funds and economic resources available", pursuant to Article 2 of Council Regulation (EU) No. 269/2014 ("Regulation 269").
The FAQs seek to provide clarification on: (1) the scope of Article 2 of Regulation 269, (2) what measures competent authorities should adopt in relation to sanctioned shareholders with qualifying holdings in an EU bank, (3) how the exemption under Article 7 of Regulation 269 applies in relation to the execution of payments, and (4) how "administrative, management or supervisory bodies of a legal person, entity or body" should be understood when considering the definition of "controlling" under Article 1(j) of Regulation 269.
- 05 May 2026 (UK):
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office ("FCDO") designated ten individuals and eight entities, pursuant to the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (the "Russia Regulations").
