During the G7 meetings, Canada announced expanded economic sanctions measures against Russia under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations, including measures targeting senior figures and entities supporting Russia's defense industrial base and its revenue generating strategic sectors, including energy, nuclear services, and financial enablers, as well as vessels associated with Russia's so called "shadow fleet".
Although announced on June 16, 2026, the new amendments took effect on June 12, 2026.
- 16 Jun 2026 (Switzerland):
Switzerland designated 16 individuals and seven entities under its Russia sanctions regime. The new sanctions listings target those responsible for the systematic unlawful deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation and within occupied territories. This includes those involved in the forced adoption and re-education of such children, which constitute grave breaches of international law and violations of the fundamental rights of the child, with the aim of erasing Ukrainian identity.
