Akin Gump international arbitration and dispute resolution partners Justin Williams, Hamish Lal and Richard Hornshaw have once again penned a Q&A column for Practical Law’s “Arbitration procedures and practice in the UK (England and Wales): overview.” The article, published in the Global Guide 2021, looks at the use of arbitration and recent trends in the United Kingdom, as identified by the authors.

Commercial arbitration remains “the preferred dispute resolution procedure for international transactions,” the authors write, with Brexit still an unknown for the implications it will have on arbitration in the UK.

Williams, Lal and Hornshaw then discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of arbitration, before turning to applicable legislation and the topic of mandatory legislative provisions.
