Energy and environmental issues are a continual part of the public debate. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP represents a range of participants in the energy industry, including oil and gas producers, oilfield service companies and producers of electric power and renewable energy, on issues such as energy and environmental policy, climate change, clean tech, market regulatory reform and tax policy.
Our energy and environment policy team was closely involved in the formulation of the major energy policy and tax legislation enacted over the last decade, including the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. We successfully represented clients before the Department of Energy and Congress seeking federal funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. We are tracking on a daily basis and advocating specific positions on all significant energy and environmental legislation and issues currently pending before Congress.
Akin Gump’s public policy professionals—working in daily collaboration with our energy and environmental lawyers— represent our clients’ interests on public policy issues before legislative and regulatory bodies such as Congress; state legislatures; the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC); the departments of Interior, Agriculture, Energy and Transportation; the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and similar state agencies. Our team members have close working relationships with key House and Senate committees that have oversight and funding jurisdiction over environmental matters of international, national, regional, state and local significance, as well as with executive branch political and regulatory officials. Members of our team have served in the EPA, including as branch chief in EPA’s Office of Pesticide Program with responsibility for coordinating the agency’s high-visibility media, stakeholder and congressional outreach efforts for a wide variety of pesticide and food safety issues.
