Biography
  • Advises on complex domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
  • Significant experience with private equity funds and their portfolio companies.

Niki represents clients in a wide range of corporate transactions, with a focus on complex mergers and acquisitions. Niki’s transaction experience covers a variety of industries, including defense and security, hospitality, manufacturing, mining and technology.

Prior to joining Akin, Niki was an attorney at a leading law firm in Toronto, Canada, where she advised clients on domestic and cross-border corporate transactions. She also completed a secondment at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts.

Niki earned her J.D. from the University of Toronto, where she served as an editor on the Law Review, and her M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, where she was a member of the Cambridge Union. She also received a certificate in transnational legal studies from the Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, England.

  • Issuers and underwriters in connection with numerous initial public offerings and follow-on equity and debt offerings on the Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange.

Mergers and Acquisitions

  • Newmont Corporation in its $10 billion acquisition of Goldcorp.
  • Onex Group in its $5 billion (Canadian) acquisition of WestJet Airlines.
  • Wind Point Partners and its portfolio company, Voyant Beauty, in its acquisition of the personal care business of KIK Custom Products.
  • Cineplex in connection with the proposed $2.8 billion (Canadian) acquisition of Cineplex by Cineworld Group.
  • Algoma Steel Group in its combination with Legato Merger Corp., a Nasdaq-listed SPAC.
  • Brinkmere Capital Partners in its acquisition of a hydraulic fluid power systems manufacturer.
  • Trinity Industries in its acquisition of Holden America.
  • Armada Materials in its acquisition of Volunteer Materials.
  • Armada Materials in its acquisition of Wright Paving and Custom Stone.
  • Stonebridge Companies in its acquisition of Real Hospitality Group.
  • Princeton Equity Group in its sale of International Franchise Professionals Group to CNL Strategic Capital, an investment vehicle sub-managed by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners.
  • Stream Data Centers and Stream Realty Partners in the proposed majority stake sale of Stream Data Centers to Apollo Funds.

Additional Representative Work

  • Newmont Corporation in its successful creation of the world’s largest gold joint venture in Nevada with Barrick Mining Corporation.
