(Washington, D.C.) – Akin announced today that Jen Becker-Pollet—former clerk and subcommittee staff director at the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations—has joined the firm as senior counsel in its renowned lobbying & public policy practice in Washington, D.C. Jen’s addition enhances the firm’s ability to support clients navigating the increasingly complex federal funding environment.
Jen brings over a decade of experience working for senior appropriators in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. She most recently served as clerk and subcommittee staff director to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government where she was the lead staff member for the Democratic Caucus, managing a team of four and overseeing ~$30 billion in annual appropriated funds. She previously worked as a professional staff member on the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee. Her experience on Capitol Hill also includes working for former House Appropriations Committee Chair Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) and former Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY).
“Having a star appropriations staffer like Jen is a must in an environment in which appropriations bills are among the best bets for clients with issues before Congress. Jen’s long experience with appropriations in both the House and the Senate makes her a fantastic addition to our all-star bipartisan team and will be invaluable to Akin’s clients,” said Brian Pomper, co‑leader of Akin’s lobbying & public policy practice. “I’m very excited to watch her do great things in the private sector for our clients.”
“Akin has an incredibly deep bench of former Hill professionals with significant experience across key committees and leadership offices,” said Jen. “That collective insight is an incredible asset for clients, and I look forward to bringing my appropriations background to help them navigate the federal funding process and advance their policy and programmatic priorities.”
Jen’s arrival follows that of Marcus Childress, co-head of the firm’s congressional investigations practice and former senior advisor and special counsel to Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Ranking Member of the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary. Recent additions to the firm’s lobbying & public policy practice include David Giordano, former trade staffer to the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means; Molly Brimmer Lolli, former senior counsel on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee; and Truman Reed, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for Representative Monica De La Cruz (R-TX).
