Biography
  • Advises clients on a range of corporate matters, with a particular focus on private equity in connection with M&A, special situations and distressed transactions, as well as preferred and structured equity financings.

Alex is a corporate counsel in Akin’s New York office. He focuses on a wide range of complex corporate transactions, including advising special situations funds, private equity firms, global asset managers, other strategic investors and their portfolio companies in mergers & acquisitions (M&A), preferred and structured equity financings, divestitures, minority investments, joint ventures, and general corporate and governance matters.

Prior to joining Akin, Alex was an associate at another leading global law firm in New York. He has also previously practiced at a New York-based firm focusing on sports and entertainment M&A.

Alex received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was recognized as a Harlan Fisk Stone Scholar. He earned his B.A. in philosophy, politics and law from Binghamton University, State University of New York.

  • Represented TJC LP on its acquisition of USALCO LLC.
  • Represented USALCO LLC in various corporate transactions, including dissemination of management incentive plan and general corporate governance.
  • Represented TPG Capital on its acquisition of Surescripts LLC.
  • Represented Arctos Partners LP on its minority investment in Aston Martin.
  • Represented ghSMART and its founder on its minority investment sale to KKR.
  • Represented Robert Sarver, the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury in connection with their sale of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury.
  • Represented the York family and the San Francisco 49ers in connection with their acquisition of a majority ownership stake in the Championship League team, Leeds United.
  • Represented John Textor in connection with his majority investment in the Ligue 1 team, Olympique Lyonnais, including the internal restructuring and consolidation of other sports assets held by John Textor’s holdco entity – Eagle Football Holdings Ltd.
  • Represented the Chicago Cubs and Laura Rickets in connection with their acquisition of the National Women’s Soccer League team, the Chicago Red Stars.
  • Represented the Paulson family in connection with their carve-out divestiture of the National Women’s Soccer League team, the Portland Thorns.
  • Represented Taylor Morrison Home Corp, in connection with its strategic acquisition of AV Homes Inc.
  • Represented Apollo Global Management Inc. in connection with its simultaneous acquisition of Shutterfly Inc. and a privately held photo sharing business.
  • Represented Nipon Steel in connection with its carve-out divestiture of its tubing business.
