Biography
  • Focuses on major energy transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, project finance and capital markets transactions.
  • Prior to practicing law, spent more than 10 years as a project design engineer and project manager for major operators in the energy industry.

Calvin McKnight advises on corporate and securities matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, project finance and capital markets transactions. Calvin advises both public and private entities and investors in a broad range of corporate matters.

While in law school, Calvin served as business editor of The Houston Journal for International Law and was vice-president of the law school’s Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) student chapter.

Prior to practicing law, Calvin worked as a project design engineer and project manager for major operators in the energy industry. Calvin has over a decade of energy industry experience and is particularly experienced in midstream, LNG, oil and gas exploration and production, construction and other related sectors.

By combining his business and engineering experiences with his legal training, Calvin brings a comprehensive view to transactions that takes into account both the legal considerations as well as the essential technical and commercial needs of the client.

Representative Work
  • As part of the Akin Gump corporate team, advised DEA Deutsche Erodel AG in its acquisition of Sierra Oil and Gas for more than $500 million, including the Zama discovery and six exploration and appraisal blocks offshore Mexico.
  • Advised an international energy company in its acquisition of a crude oil gathering system and marketing company with operations in Oklahoma and Texas.
  • As part of the Akin Gump corporate team, represented a midstream energy company on its initial public offering, providing structure and guidance to the client throughout the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) process.
