Biography
  • Counsels multinational companies on U.S. law and policies affecting international trade and business, including unfair trade practices, sanctions, export controls and customs matters.
  • Represents clients in trade litigation before the U.S. Department of Commerce, the ITC, U.S. courts and international tribunals.

Sarah Sprinkle counsels multinational clients on a range of international economic regulatory and trade policy matters, advising on market access, customs, sanctions and export controls matters. Sarah represents clients in World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement proceedings and antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) proceedings before the Commerce Department, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and federal courts. Additionally, Sarah frequently advises clients in the defense, insurance and information technology industries, among others, on import and export compliance matters, assisting them with licensing, product classifications and voluntary self-disclosures.

Prior to Akin Gump, Sarah handled trade remedies cases on behalf of foreign producers, exporters and governments, as well as domestic importers and producers. While in law school, she was a legal intern for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and an international trade and arbitration legal intern for a leading Brazil-based law firm.

Sarah maintains an active pro bono practice, assisting clients with successful petitions for asylum through the Whitman Walker Legal Services Pro Bono Program.

Sarah is an elected member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Representative Work
  • Advised a U.S. aircraft producer on two major disputes before the WTO between the United States and the European Union regarding large civil aircraft.
  • Represented sovereign governments in WTO disputes related to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 (GATT) and the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (“SCM Agreement”).
  • Represented a Korean tire company in an AD duty investigation on passenger vehicle and light truck tires from Korea at Commerce.
  • Represented Canadian lumber producer in AD and CVD investigations on softwood lumber at Commerce.
  • Represented Taiwanese and Korean steel producers in AD and CVD investigations on a range of steel products at Commerce.
  • Advised multinational companies seeking exclusions from duties on products from China imposed pursuant to Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
  • Advised multinational companies seeking exclusions from duties on aluminum and steel products imposed pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
