Sheena Buddhdev is a member of the litigation group. Ms. Buddhdev focuses her practice on a broad range of high-value, complex banking and financial disputes, complex commercial disputes, restructuring and insolvency law matters and contentious regulatory issues. She has significant experience conducting and resolving disputes (both in arbitration and litigation) in England and around the world.

Ms. Buddhdev’s recent engagements include:

Financial Institutions

  • representing a junior noteholder in a successful claim before the English Court of Appeal on the interpretation of a provision contained in a suite of interlocking agreements in the context of a collateralized loan obligation transaction
  • advising lenders to an English directories business on litigation and recovery strategies in England, Spain and the United States following a default under the terms of a facility agreement
  • acting for a hedge fund in English High Court proceedings against a large multinational manufacturing group and its private equity fund backer in a dispute concerning sham financial transactions under a billion dollar syndicated loan facility
  • advising an international hedge fund in its capacity as a lender in relation to defaults by a stated owned Vietnamese company under a $600 million loan facility, including in relation to proceedings before the English High Court and its subsequent enforcement strategy
  • advising a committee of junior lenders in connection with breaches by a Northern Irish power company under the terms of a junior facility agreement
  • acting on behalf of the holders of in excess of $22 billion of bonds issued by three of the largest insolvent Icelandic banks and advising upon litigation strategy and asset recoveries
  • acting for a bondholder in relation to proceedings commenced in the Luxembourg Courts against a real estate company under a €75 million bond issue to compel early redemption of certain of its bonds following a change of control
  • acting on behalf of a group of bondholders in proceedings before the English High Court concerning default and acceleration under an issue of bonds by a Polish company and advising generally on the protection of their investment
  • advising a syndicate of senior lenders of potential claims that could be brought in England by second lien and mezzanine debt holders in connection with a creditor-led restructuring advising in respect of a claim under a bilateral investment treaty


  • representing provisional liquidators of a Luxembourg securitization vehicle in connection with applications to the English Court for directions in the context of a proposed company voluntary arrangement
  • acting for bondholders of a large Norwegian company established to build and operate rigs in order to recover their investment in bankruptcy proceedings, including overseeing litigation before the U.A.E. Courts acting for investors in expedited proceedings in the English High Court in relation to unfair prejudice claims under the Insolvency Act 1986


  • acting for the FSCS in pursuing recovery from various Lehman insolvencies in connection with Lehman-structured products
  • advising a retail bank in connection with a regulatory investigation into the misselling of certain products
  • acting on behalf of a Lithuanian bank in connection with the referral of a decision of the Regulatory Decisions Committee to the Financial Services and Market Tribunal

Business Disputes


  • advising the administrators of a FTSE 100 oil and gas company in connection with a claim for conspiracy brought by a group company against a joint venture partner before the Nigerian courts
  • advising a warrantor under a share sale agreement of potential claims that could be brought by the buyer in England following an SEC enquiry
  • acting on behalf of a public limited company on the possible misuse of confidential information by its banking syndicate advising and assisting a shareholder of a joint venture in the defence of an unfair prejudice petition before the English court
