Biography
  • Advises clients on corporate matters in the energy and infrastructure industries.

Taha is counsel in Akin’s global energy and infrastructure practice. He represents sponsors, developers, financial institutions and sovereign investors in the entire project development life cycle, including the acquisition, development, financing and sale of energy and infrastructure projects, across North America, the Middle East and beyond.

Taha has particular experience advising on complex commercial contracts, joint ventures and financings in the renewable power, energy transition and conventional power sectors, as well as emerging infrastructure asset classes. His practice spans project development, construction, offtake arrangements and corporate structuring, often involving cross-border considerations and tax-sensitive investment platforms.

Before joining Akin, Taha practiced with leading international law firms in New York, Abu Dhabi and Toronto, advising on energy and infrastructure projects across diverse legal systems and regulatory environments.

Representative Work
  • Represented the lender in a $130 million senior secured equipment supply loan to support the buildout of a behind-the-meter gas turbine power generation platform serving data and industrial load in Texas and the Mountain West.
  • Represented a government procurer on the public-private partnership (PPP) procurement and development of solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind independent power projects in Saudi Arabia with a total capacity of 5.3 gigawatts (GW).
  • Advised a sovereign wealth fund in its joint venture with a U.S. private equity firm to develop and operate power infrastructure for data centers across the United States.
  • Represented a U.S. airline in a long-term sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offtake agreement involving novel feedstock and supply chain structures.
  • Advised on the development of multiple biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) projects in the U.S., including feedstock arrangements and sales to public utilities.
  • Represented a Middle Eastern industrial client in connection with the development and licensing of a large-scale petrochemical production facility, including negotiation of technology license and engineering agreements.
  • Represented a strategic investor in the joint development of a first-of-its-kind desalination and brine mineral recovery facility, with tailored engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and offtake structures to address interdependent project risk.
  • Represented a consortium of project developers in negotiating EPC agreements, operations and maintenance (O&M) agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs), offtake agreements and hedging agreements.
  • Advised a state-owned mining company in connection with a joint venture for the exploration and development of gold deposits in Saudi Arabia.
  • Represented the lenders in a $200 million refinancing of a large-scale crude oil and refined products infrastructure hub, including terminal and storage facilities
  • Advised a sponsor in a tax equity financing for the development and operation of a portfolio of hydrogen fuel cell power projects in New York.
